CSS Off

The Contest

  • Convert a .psd into HTML making use of web standards, in 24 hours or less. Think SimpleQuiz, except it's the final exam.

The Mission

  • To actively engage the web community in web standards with an emphasis on valid, semantic markup
  • To emphasize good web design as an integral part of the development process
  • To use the contest as an opportunity to teach

Without further adieu: at one minute past midnight (12:01 am), CST, April 5, a .psd will be available for download in .zip format on this page. You’ll have 24 hours to send your zipped entry to cssoff@gmail.com.

We’re tickled to announce that this month’s contest is being designed by guest designer and illustrator, Brad Colbow.

As always, the winner of this contest gets to pick between cash or a donation to a charity of their choosing (we’re trying to scrounge up exactly how much cash, and possibly some goodies — more to come), and we’ll feature you and your site when we discuss your winning entry.

  16. I have a few questions:

    How will the competition be judged?
    What are the rules and what kind of thing are you looking for in a winning entry?
    Will the design be used in any commercial manner?
    What browsers does it need to support?

    Looks like a great opportunity for everyone to show off their lean mean coding skillz!

    @Paul: Because of bookmarks, it’s too late to change that. When we made the initial post, we messed the dates up because it happens at midnight for us! Whoops! The contest starts at 12:01 am on April 5.

    @Nicolas: I am no good with time zones, but that is midnight in Memphis, TN USA. But everyone gets 24 hours!
