Jabroni Judging is Underway
For those wondering, we’ve got a total of 53 entries for our first CSS Off from participants all around the globe.
I’m very much surprised at how many people said with your entries, “thank you for doing this” and “this was fun”, even though all of you are the ones doing the work! The response of this contest has confirmed one of our initial thoughts when creating the CSS Off — that there is a clear desire for many designers to compare their work.
We hope to have results for all the participants (and you quiet observers out there) soon enough.

[…] I’m one of 53 participants (I hope) of the first round of CSSOff - Jabroni. (too many […]
Wuu, 52 other guys!!
Let’s see!
Do you also have any statistics on how many entries were submitted too late? (i.e. if I wasn’t the only one ;)
@nwrman:
… and girls. Women do this stuff, too, you know.
@vincent:
soon enough.
Cool, thanks.
Can’t wait to see the results :)
Had a great time doing this, can’t wait for the next one :)
It would be quite cool to see a showcase of everyone’s efforts, is there a plan to display them all or just the winner?
@Sam H:
All of them.
sweet : D
O shi-, missed the june 1st one… Bring on the next round!
I second that motion. I couldn’t get a design ready because of school, but the next round, I’m in.
How many days to know who the winner is?
bye
Come on, guys! How much are we going to wait? I know it’s only 53 works (so much and so less) but you could hurry up.
@Yarek
I believe judging carefully 53 different works is not that easy. There’s only two of them (as I remember) and anyway they are doing it for free in their free time (!) - pushing them this way is not nice - or maybe you’d like to donate to them for their work? :)
I think we should be thankful for ability to participate in this contest and just shut up for now.
By the way I’m afraid that making this contest every month may be too much for judges - unless they find some sponsors to refund that huge ammount of time that they need to spend on it - I’m also afraid that following contests will have more than 50 entries :)
@Medyk
I think if someone takes up such task like contest he should be conscious of people’s expectations. When you are not sure if you are up to organize such contest - just don’t do it. We had only 24 hours for our task, most of us probably did it for fun, we spent free time for this. So.. aren’t they doing it for fun too?
For future contests, maybe they should pick some extra judges? Two people isn’t enough imo. I’m shutting up, let the judges judge ;)
@Yarek
It’s one week since we submitted our works.. they said several days.. so results should be just about now.. hopefully :)
Anyway I prefer late but right judgment.. than early and not sure :)
Let’s say it takes only 1.5 hours to analyze a single project. This means approximately 80 hours to judge all the items - 40 hours per judge. Now, consider that in a given day a person may sleep 8 hours, work 8 hours, eat 1-2 hours, travel 1-2 hours. That leaves 4-6 hours in the day for other things, which obviously cannot wholly be dedicated to judging. Even if they could dedicate 4 hours per day to judging, that’s ten days for each judge, at the soonest. Ten days will finish Tuesday, so I personally wouldn’t start begging the question “Are we there yet?” until then.
That’s just a starting point and each project (not to mention personal life) could allot for more or less, but let’s just do the math, people.
With regard to additional judges, I would image that - if they do deem it appropriate - they will see by the caliber of the entries in this first run whether entrants (and *which* entrants) could be suitable “helper” volunteer judges. If not from the entrants, from where would they enlist these “extra” judges? Perhaps the winner is given the option of participating as volunteer judge? Who knows what they will decide.
Judges, keep up the good work! Don’t be too saddened by junks code that I’m sure you are forced to examine!
I want to give a little heads up to everyone out there who’s waiting patiently for results. Tony has been doing most of the heavy lifting on this round of entries, and I just made it through my first review of all 53 entries today, while on the road back from a friend’s wedding eight hours away.
We are trying hard to give each entry the attention it deserves, and I don’t want to speak for my partner on this, so I’ll hold off for now on giving a date, but we’re getting close. Once we have a winner, we’ll also want to give a thoughtful response for the contest.
The response has truly been humbling, and we’ll be thinking real hard how to improve this stage of the contest. With my background as a literary magazine editor, my urge during judging is to focus on quality over speed.
Again, thanks for the enthusiasm as we learn our way through this!
I don’t like you but me is getting worried, a little : D
